About Location
In Hindu mythology, Benaulim Beach holds a significant place, believed to be a divine gift to the sage Shri Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Legend has it that Parasurama shot an arrow into the sea from the summits of the Western Ghats, commanding the waters to recede. The land that emerged at the spot where the arrow descended, originally known in Sanskrit as ‘Banali’, is said to be the present-day Benaulim. This name was later altered by the Portuguese, leading to the beach’s current name, Benaulim, a place steeped in mythological significance and divine intervention.
